Depression and anxiety can make it very difficult to leave the house and even get up from your chair or bed. In turn, this lack of movement exacerbates the low mood. It has long been established that exercise helps to battle mental illness, but after long periods of low activity, undertaking new activities can seem daunting. If you are anxious at the thought high-octane sports or running then you can relax. Although these short session of intense activities are great for you, doing the occasional gym routine will not help on its own.

One of the free online courses available through Coursera is "Sit Less,Get Active", by the University of Edinburgh. It is a rational, scientific and accessible way to improve your physical, and thus mental, health. Don't be afraid. It is not scary. The course is very simple, very short and adaptable to you.
